Our 10th Anniversary Retreat is going virtual!
FVMQG is determined not to let Covid-19 put a damper on our 10th Anniversary celebrations. We may not be able to gather in person but we are still going to have a retreat Oct 2-4, 2020. We are excited to officially announce our retreat is going virtual!
All members are invited!
What:
Virtual retreat via Zoom - connect, create, learn, laugh, shop, win prizes and even get your very own swag bag!
When:
Friday, October 2 / Saturday October 3, Sunday October 4, 2020
Where:
Enjoy a full 3 day retreat from the comfort of your own home!
How the heck does a “virtual” retreat work you ask??
• The Zoom platform will be open all day and night from Friday 2pm to Sunday 4pm. Retreat hosts will always be in attendance.
• There will be lots of scheduled fun, games, demos, projects, whole group activities, smaller group breakout rooms, time to just sit and sew and socialize and lots of prize draws each day.
• A full schedule of activities will be published so attendees can come and go as they like or stay in the retreat all day and night long.
• Attendees simply enter the zoom meeting through the link that will be emailed to each registrant. (If you are not comfortable with Zoom yet reach out and our committee will help you)
• There will be Swag Bags for each attendee!
Pick up your fabulous Swag Bag from the Retreat Committee between 10am - 12pm at our usual in-person meeting location.
If for some reason you cannot come to pick up your Swag Bag please connect with another member to pick it up for you, or contact Kate Davies at fvmodernquiltguild@gmail.com to make other arrangement.
During the Retreat :
We will from time to time “Mute” all participants microphones to reduce distracting background noises and avoid multiple people talking at once! In this circumstance when you want to speak to the group you simply “Un-Mute” yourself and you will be heard by everyone
In un-muted group conversations try to not to speak at the same time as someone else or dominate the conversation
We encourage you to use the “Chat” function to type messages or ask questions. You have the option to “Chat” to the entire group or to a specific attendee.
If you want to get our Moderators attention you may also use the “raise hand” function or just actually raise/wave your hand.
Tips for Audio / Video Quality During Zoom Meetings
For Good audio:
Set up in a quiet room - no TV or Music or barking dogs in the background is helpful!
While sewing set your device a foot or so away from your sewing machine to reduce machine noise. If your device speaker is not the greatest you may get & deliver better audio using a headset.
For Good Video
DO set up with good lighting source in “front” and or “above” you.
DON’T set up with a window or other bright light source “behind” you (that gives your face dark shadows, grim reaper like!)
DO elevate your device/camera so it is about eye level - eg. put it on a shoe box on top of the table
DON’T have your device/camera on the table pointing “up” at you (this gives the double chin / nostril /ceiling view lol!)
Most of all Have fun!! We are all in this and learning together.
